When you own a home, storage space is a necessity. Many people end up utilizing their garage to store things. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy reports that 25% of people with a 2-car garage don’t even park their vehicles inside! So what can you do to get the most out of your garage space?
Purge
Take stock of everything that’s in your garage and decide what items you really need. Have you used it recently? Can it be discarded or even donated or sold? Can it go somewhere else? Get rid of anything that isn’t a necessity to free up space for the things that are.
Choose the right storage materials
Find storage items that are versatile and conserve space. If you have tools, choose a toolbox that isn’t too big so space isn’t used up unnecessarily. You can also consider rolling options so you can move the box as your needs change. For storage bins and totes, look for durable options that can fit a variety of items, from lawn equipment to camping gear and more.
Build up
Most people only store things at or below eye level, but overhead racks can be great space savers. Use them to tuck seasonal things out of the way when you’re not using them. You can also add hanging racks to your walls, or add more cabinets to hold supplies.
