As much as we hate thinking about the return of colder weather, this is Buffalo, and we have to make sure we’re prepared for it. That’s why, in order to be ready for everything that Old Man Winter has in store for us, there are certain home projects that need to be done before the colder temperatures come around:
Replace old windows
Old windows are one of the major causes of heat loss in a home, allowing cold air to seep in and warm air to seep out. Replacing any older windows in your home will not only keep you comfier in the winter time, but it’ll also save you money when your energy bill comes around.
Check on your insulation
The insulation around your attic, doors, and windows is another key factor in keeping your house warm and reducing your energy bill. So, check to make sure you have proper insulation in your home, and ensure that any strip seals haven’t been worn down.
Repair your roof
Your roof will go through a lot this winter—namely when it has to deal with the few feet of snow that will be dropped on top of it. That’s why, in the late summer and early fall months, you should inspect your roof to see what condition it’s in. Replace any missing shingles and fix other signs of damage that could cause serious leaking problems later on.
Repaint the exterior of your home
Touching up the exterior of your home will help make your house look more appealing, but it’ll also better protect it against the snow. Just make sure you do this in the early fall months while it’s still warm.
Tune up your furnace
Living comfortably during the colder fall and winter months depends on a reliable furnace. It’s also best to check if your furnace is running properly in order to prevent burst or frozen pipes in your home.
