Western New York winters can really mess with your home’s siding. From ice to snow and wind to rain, siding takes a beating in and around Buffalo, New York.
Ivy Lea Construction–Tonawanda’s trusted name in home improvement–repairs and replaces siding. While the average person doesn’t typically think about their siding on a daily basis, once in a while they’ll be looking at it and say to themselves, “Something doesn’t look right.”
There are several signs that it’s time for new siding.
First, look for chips, dents and cracks in the siding. Perhaps it has been damaged by hail. Loose siding is also a bad thing, typically caused by harsh winds.
Next, if you notice any “bubbling” or “blistered” parts then chances are the siding was exposed to extreme heat or moisture. Not good.
If you have wood siding, look for damage from animals like squirrels. Also, is there “fungus among us?” Moisture can cause wood to decompose over time, giving it “dry rot,” which weakens it.
Finally, consider the color and condition of your siding. Is the color outdated? Does it blend well with neighbors or cause people to say, “What were they thinking?” Is the color faded to the point where it looks old and worn? If it’s wood, does it need staining– yet again?
